I like that idea Lifted..., and even a step further, scale the points so that a win vs 20 competitors is worth more than a win against 10 competitors. I'd also like to see 2 point races per week, maybe stick with Wednesday and tack on a Saturday or Sunday race. If one of the races is less populated, no big deal, you can still earn points but less than a larger field.
It also makes redemption come a little faster knowing your next chance is only a few days away.

Good idea about promoting the event on other forums, Lifty, I'll do that on the GTA Forums which I use regularly. Thanks.
And "points just for showing up"? Ummm, that's one to think about... I'm not so sure. I remember the Formula 1 team back in the 80s/90s called Minardi - the slowest team ever who never scored a point and hardly ever classified, but they kept on at it year after year, a bit like Sauber do today, scoring points only occasionally. The challenge is to improve and finally get up the leaderboard.
Mac Daddy pointed out last night that when the Championship leaders start pulling away, stragglers will stop competing because they're out of contention. I agree - it may happen, and there could be as few as five or six of us left by the end of the Championship in September, but that's just the way of it.. and if only three people turn up on the final race of the season it will be really intense...

If one of the races is less populated, no big deal, you can still earn points but less than a larger field. It also makes redemption come a little faster knowing your next chance is only a few days away. All I've done is copied the very successful formula used by Formula 1 - up to 24 competitors who race one a week or once a fortnight using the same points system. It works really well. And remember what the essence of Gfred is all about - get it right or dive bomb out of contention. "To be or not to be, that is the question". Take the ramp, or not take the ramp? Find a new car, or risk Mt. Chiliad in this pile of junk? Go for it, or tip-toe your way around? These decisions are what makes Gfred great, and the once a week points system also piles pressure on everyone - get it right or a week of regret. Once you start awarding points just for showing up, or giving away points for 20th place 'just because' we're nice guys, the whole tension of race day and the Championship gets thinned down, diluting the essence of Gfred. I don't think this would work. And remember, you've had three consecutively bad races, Mac, so naturally you're after immediate redemption, and more points and more races to even things out. That's not really fair on people like me who have had three good races.

Just brainstorming, I also like it just the way it is!
Actually, i think there is plenty of room for making a come back. There will likely be some people that are on the leaderboard that wont make it, or will have bad nights, leaving opportunity for those that are consistently there on race day and consistent in the race itself.

It's all about the tension, Lifty. I've heard more 'fucks' on a Wednesday night than in a Thai brothel

Just my 2 cents, but when did winning a championship and creating frustration trump filling a lobby and enjoying the process instead of the result? I don't like the idea of people dropping out... there's nothing at stake here except our time. But that's just my opinion. A week's worth of frustration and wanting redemption isn't my idea of pleasant gaming. There's enough continuous stress in my real life, don't need to tack on that much more playing a game.

It's the nature of the track amped up in an event. Nobody knows the frustration more than I do. Pretty sure im the leader in the 'fuck' count. haha

I don't know what to say, Mac... I really don't. I've been thinking about your post for the last ten minutes, and I too have work affairs to deal with right now... I really don't know what to say! You luck will turn because I know you're capable of good race times, and apologies for your shitty experiences over the last couple of weeks, sincerely.

I realise I'm being a bit too rigid about the whole thing, and points should be awarded just for participating in the race, not just for finishing in the top 10. I will update the 'Championship' table to reflect this. This will encourage more people to take part just to get an extra point. However, I can't give more than 1 point per race because that's what you get for 10th place anyway, and we don't want to undermine that. The existing points system will not be changed or updated, and points will only be awarded for the top 10 finishers, as the last race we only got 13 starters anyway! I'm really enjoying hosting and coordinating this event, but this is really eating into my time now. Thanks for participating, guys, I think you're all great. Have a great weekend and good luck next week. Cheers

Don't read too much into it. I'm with Lifty, the point system is fine. It's just not what motivates me. I'm not in this for wins, if I were I would have left the crew a long time ago, most of you are on a different level from me. I DO do this for good performances and when luck doesn't smile it sucks.

Round 4 of the NightShift Gfred championship will be kicking off in about four hours from now... so remember to do you 'practice' runs before that.
I'll be online in a couple of hours after I finish my work...
Cheers, good luck and 'break a leg'.

So apparently it's frowned upon to blow someone up after they forcibly remove you from your sultan. My instincts took over ๐ฌ

Trumpet lol...I'm sure he was pissed but don't take a persons car after they're already in it and driving off sorry Hi Banther. I know you're pissed about that, but it's within the rules and Trumpet didn't do anything technically wrong. I guess, morally, he shouldn't have done it, so perhaps you should have a private word with him and make sure he wasn't targeting you personally. Cheers!
